‘BEYOND MIDDLE EARTH: a Botanica of the Extinct, Rare and Useful Plants of the lands of Middle Earth with Commentaries on the Lands and Peoples of Central Middle Earth’.

Beyond Middle Earth is a lavishly illustrated book of marvellous plants and their ecology, a forest lore and herb lore, a fictional history, a folk mythology, a set of epic sagas, and in part (but much the lesser of it) is an encyclopaedia to the characters, events and places in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. But Beyond Middle Earth is original in concept, structure and detail, and quickly departs from his writings, establishing new landscapes, characters, time scales, histories and themes. Rather, Tolkien’s writing provides a partial and contextual backdrop, however, great care has been taken to keep very much to the inherent sense of place and moment that his works describe. The Preface and the Introduction to Beyond Middle Earth explain the book’s intent far more succinctly.

The book is available as a hardcover limited edition; 31cm x 21cm, 340pp, stitched and cloth bound, with dust jacket, 34 full page plates, and two maps. Each copy is signed by the author.
